On February 1, 2016, Peace Winds Japan (PWJ) celebrated its 20th anniversary. The entire PWJ team around the world would like to share our heartfelt appreciation for your contribution towards our success.
In these past 20 years, PWJ has worked in 28 countries as well as Japan to provide support for local communities as well as humanitarian aid in times of need. Though PWJ has gained recognition as one of many successful Japanese NGOs working globally, we are also aware of the importance of maintaining our determination to face new challenges.
In Japan, we have primarily strived to improve the foundations for strengthening NGO activities. In recent years, we have taken on new challenges in regional revitalization and have promoted projects where we address issues such as severe depopulation and aging in mostly rural communities. In recent years, PWJ has been trying to reduce the number of dogs killed in the public animal shelters in Japan. These rescued dogs are then cared for and trained at our facilities. In a similar fashion, PWJ has committed to become a powerful provider of public social services in the areas of medicine, local arts & crafts, and regional culture in the coming years.
On the international front, PWJ has witnessed firsthand the increase in the number of refugees and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) caused by the almost continuous incidents of international conflict as well as conflict due to extremist terrorist organizations such as ISIS. In addition to the hardships due to such conflict, we have also seen a growing need for more immediate and appropriate rescue and livelihood assistance due to natural disasters. As we have in the past, PWJ will continue to leverage our 20 years of experience serving people around the world, responding to such emergency situations.
With “Challenge” and “Innovation” as our keywords, regardless of its field or method, PWJ plans to keep pursuing for more challenges ahead. PWJ will continue to dedicate our work to deliver support to those in need. We appreciate your support as well as your understanding for our work.
